This is an old school Nintendo world map design, from Super Mario Brothers 3. I find it's design brilliant and entrancing, and it is interesting to look back to the very basics of world maps in video games. All the different levels follow the same theme, a harsh and outlandish world overwhelmed by ice. All of these levels are within a single world that is but one step in a long journey Mario must endure to save the kingdom from Bowser's cruel tyranny.
